If you look to join a guild you might not have to look for pick-up groups but if you guys are solo, it still won't be hard as there's groups going on all the time. Depending on the group these can go rather fast or.. You can also leave at any time, most people won't give you any grief over it, especially if you state how long you'll be available beforehand. So, D2 is not D3, but if end game is brought to the game, it should not change the rarity of some items.
